2015 Muskegon ChannelCats Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Muskegon ChannelCats mission?

The Muskegon ChannelCats manage select travel baseball teams from Muskegon, Michigan and along the Lakeshore. The ChannelCats give players ages 9-14 the opportunity to build a solid foundation of fundamental skills, learn the value of teamwork and most importantly have fun playing the game of baseball.

What's in store for next season?

Head coaches will be selected and players will be invited to be part of teams in July. We take a break from baseball in the fall, allowing time for arms to rest and players to participate in other sports. We will have an informational meeting and begin practice inside in December. Each team will play in 4-5 tournaments next year. The season will wrap up around July 1st.

What about rec ball?

The more baseball the better. Anyone who wants to play rec ball will have the chance to do so.

What is the cost to play for the ChannelCats?

The cost for the 2015 season will be $350-$400. Optional hitting club memberships will be available. There will be fundraising opportunities to reduce or even eliminate the player fee.

How many teams will the ChannelCats field in 2015?

We will be fielding 4-6 teams of players ages 9-14 in 2015.

When do teams practice?

Practice begins inside in December at area high schools. Teams take a break for the holidays and resume practice in January. Practices are held on the weekend during the offseason and last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Some teams hold workouts during the week as well during the winter and outside in the spring.

How do you select tournaments?

Our board of directors and head coaches select the tournaments we play. We concentrate on tournaments that take place in May and June avoiding holiday weekends when possible. Our plan is to have all teams play in the same tournaments.

How can I play for the ChannelCats?

ChannelCats teams are filled by invitation only. We will not be holding tryouts this season. Players are invited to be part of the team by the coaches.
